Is your stomach growling? No, not your biological stomach, your spiritual stomach. Are you hungry for something spiritually? I’m through hungering for righteousness. This is not a misprint.
God is not confined by any of our human organizations. He goes wherever he wants. He does some amazing things in places you wouldn’t expect. The Jews made the mistake of thinking God only operated within their framework. And one time in the synagogue…Jesus blew up their box.
Why doesn’t Jesus act immediately when I want Him to do stuff? I’m freaked out! Why isn’t He? I have a crisis and I need it solved now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Certainly not next year. Now! Why does’t He understand that?
We try to get somewhere by being pulled from the outside instead of being powered from the inside. We serve God. We work for the Kingdom. We volunteer for our local church. We do stuff for Jesus. All of that is good except for one thing: much of what we do is on our own ability due to feeling obligated.
Make space for creativity. An idea room is a place for sharing ideas. It should be comfortable, functional and eclectic. It is part warehouse, part meeting room and part lounge. It should not cost much money. Go cheap. It should look like a warehouse with stuff thrown in. Nothing should match. Matching furniture is boring. Put in anything you like regardless of whether it “should” be there. Have fun.
So for those of us in ministry, what should our response be? Pitching a spiritual fit produces nothing. How about we turn something destructive into something constructive? Instead of seeing the movie I encourage you to send $50 to Refuge for Women.
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by life’s pressures. Sometimes we forget that God created us distinctly different and with an amazing capacity.
