Wanted: Children’s Minister
The Grove Community Christian Church
Baltimore, OH (just outside of Columbus)
In November, 2015 we hired Casey Sollars as our Children’s Minister. Casey was a student at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. She came on part time, graduated in May 2016 and immediately moved to a full time roll. Casey’s time at The Grove has been a blessing. She has organized, developed a team of volunteers, raised the bar of expectation, expanded the program and outreach events of the church and led several children to Jesus!
In January, Casey’s became engaged. Her fiancé has been accepted into optometry school in Philadelphia. Sadly, Casey will be leaving us in July to begin the next phase of her life! It’s a bitter-sweet time for all of us.
I am looking for a person who will come and build on the firm foundation that has been laid by Casey and her team. I would l like to have someone in place at the beginning of the summer to have an opportunity to work with Casey and the team and ensure a smooth transition.
We are looking for a person with:
- A passion to reach and lead children in their personal walk with God
- A desire to partner with parents and help them model Jesus and pass on a heritage of godliness
- Gifts of leadership, organization, teaching
- An understanding of the need to recruit, train and retain a volunteer staff
- An eagerness to help mold our Children’s Ministry and take it to the next level
- VISION! An ability to see what it can be!
- A person working toward a bachelor’s degree from a Christian college, or a seminary degree
A bit of history…
Midway Christian Church was founded in 1974. A church family donated 42 acres to the church. In the 1980’s a 15,000 square foot building was erected in two phases on the property. Attendance grew to 175. By 2000 the church was struggling. Attendance had dipped to 40. There were no funds available to hire a pastor or take any steps. The leaders were at a loss of what to do. They contacted a mega church down in Lancaster (Fairfield Christian) looking for advice. Over the next year the determination was made for Midway to become the satellite campus of Fairfield Christian. The merger occurred in 2002. In 2008 a 65,000 square foot addition was added for the purpose of housing a Jr and Sr High Christian School, and to also accommodate the growth taking place in the church. Over the course of years the mega church fell on hard times. In 2012, the determination was made to split the 2 campuses.
I was contacted in the Fall of 2013 to come and be the pastor at the North Campus (the satellite). I would help lead the separation of the two churches and then lead the former satellite church to the future. I moved here in April of 2014.
We separated the churches in May, 2015. We have purchased our land and buildings back, and have set a course for growth both transformational and numerical. Our new name is The Grove and we are poised to take our next steps. We have completed over $200,000 in renovations to the building and land, including: A $95,000 overhaul of the lighting, video and sound systems in the Worship Center (which will seat over 900), repair of the crumbling parking lot and other assorted projects. We have started a small group ministry (with 10 small groups meeting weekly). A mission’s focus is beginning to take shape. We have transitioned our music from a blended style to contemporary. We have committed to reaching out to 25-45 year olds with children and teenagers. It is all coming together. Three years ago we had 1 baby in the nursery – Last week we had 10!
The future of The Grove is bright. We believe God has strategically placed us to reach out to the 32,000 homes in a 10 mile radius that have no church affiliation. In addition, new home starts are springing up down the Refugee Road corridor from Pickerington to our property. There are hundreds of families moving to our area. We are excited about what is straight ahead – Our hands are to the plow!
The facility that was erected in 2008 includes a children’s wing with nearly 20,000 square feet of space. Classrooms, resource areas are in abundance. We are looking for a person who will bring vision and growth to the Children’s Ministry area and help us fill up these rooms with bright-eyes children.
We are READY to press ahead
Derek Lauer was my Bible college roommate. Now he is the lead pastor at Grove Community Christian Church. Any children’s pastor would be blessed to work along side of Derek. You will find him to be spiritually mature, smart and fun. He gets my highest recommendation. (Just don’t believe the stories he might tell try to tell you about me from my Bible college days. I deny everything.)
